Maxime Bocken, a Belgian-born artist, is a storyteller whose narrative is woven from the threads of a multicultural upbringing. Growing up in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bocken was immersed in a family where creativity flowed freely. At the age of 16, he embarked on a journey of exploration, studying architecture and technical drawing before embarking on a modelling career that took him across Europe and ignited his passion for photography. Now based in Canada, Bocken’s work is inspired by a rich tapestry of experiences that have woven their way into the fabric of his creative vision.

In his series Tribal, Bocken delves into the nuanced interplay of identity and expression, as manifested through the fusion of traditional masks. He invites viewers to ponder the complexities of reconciling ancestral customs with modern realities and whether our chosen masks obscure or illuminate the essence of who we are. Tribal serves as a reflection on the fluidity of identity, inviting us to unravel the mysteries of our own personal narratives.
